High Contrast Imaging
In the early 2000's there was a NASA project to design, build, and launch a large space telescope that would be able to image Earth-like planets orbiting in the habitable zone of Sun-like stars.
The telescope was called the Terrestrial Planet Finder (TPF).
I was very active in collaborating with Jeremy Kasdin and David Spergel in designing the optics for the TPF telescope.
Sadly, in 2008 there was a recession which led to the ultimate canellation of the project in 2011.
